Don’t Tinder Korea

Tinder is the biggest possible waste of your time and energy if you’re looking to meet Korean girls.

It’s a microcosm of shitty American culture coming to Korea and being made even worse.  Every interaction begins with you providing the girl with instant validation of her looks, which in and of itself is not a good beginning.  Then 99% of the time, you have to send messages first and show direct interest, further weakening your hand.  If she even bothers responding to your dancing bear intro or terrible pun, you’re in a situation where you almost have to play into her hand just to get her to meet face to face.  It’s a lazy and weak way of trying to meet girls in general, and it especially doesn’t work in Korea.

Dealing With the Language Barrier

Picking up girls in another country is never easy, and it’s a good bit more difficult when the natives don’t have extensive knowledge of English.  Places like Europe and touristy destinations around the world will have a ton of locals who speak English with at least decent proficiency, but East Asia generally does not.  On top of that, if you go to places like Central and South America, Spanish is relatively easy to pick up to a conversational point.  Korean is not.

Korean is definitely one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn, which is why many expats have been here for years upon years without learning more than survival phrases.  I, for one, refuse to be that guy.  I took it upon myself after arriving here to develop a strong proficiency with the language, and I’m now at a point where I’m functionally fluent but not native.  This is entirely unimportant though in terms of picking up women.

Reflections on Weekend in Daejeon

Last weekend I took the second in my series of trips around Korea to gather more information to share with you.  The first weekend, I was in Seoul, and it is probably a trip I will do again later once I’ve honed my information gathering strategy a bit more.  In my reflections from that weekend, I noted that simply trying to get laid in a different city didn’t really provide me with new information about that city, but was just a representation of who was out on that particular night.  That weekend in Seoul wasn’t a great night because of weather and timing, as it was the national vacation week in Korea so there weren’t many people out. Logistics are King

Of all the different aspects involved in getting a girl from the point of being interested to the point of penetration, the most important is logistics, hands down.  In this case, logistics means the distance from the bar or club where you meet a girl to your home and the way to get there.  Seoul is a huge city with literally hundreds of thousands of places to drink, but if you want an area with western style bars or clubs, there are only a few sections of the city to go.

Never Let Her Cancel on You Twice

As I’ve mentioned before, a big problem in Korea is girls who flake on you.  You might have plans set in stone with her for Friday night, then when the time comes, she’ll either send you a cursory text message a few minutes before you’re supposed to meet or she sometimes just won’t show up at all without even calling.
